I've collected a lot of business cards over the year. Above is merely a small sample. If you're not carrying you own, and you are at ALL involved in a creative industry, you should!
"But I am not a business!" you may protest.
Ah, there is the trap! You don't need to be. Anyone can order them.
"Okay, but WHY should I carry them? It's so old fashioned - I'll just use Facebook!"
That works one-on-one, but have you ever been to a big, crazy event? Met lots of people, made new friends you wanted to stay in touch with - then gotten home and realized you had NO idea how to find them again?
Business cards solve that. Name, contact information, and a logo or photo of you/ your work, right in your pocket! Much better then paper scraps or writing on an arm in Sharpie!
They're also good for...
- Networking
- Sharing your work! (If you can put a photo of your work/ costume/ photography on the card, DO it! I am baffled by photographers who just put a logo/ a camera.)
- Entering those restaurant drawings where you throw your business card in a fishbowl to win lunch
- Building card houses when bored
- Displaying at booths
- Whipping out and going "Here's my card!" a la Don Draper!
"Okay, I'm convinced, where should I get my very own shiny cards?"
There are several good places. My favorite is Moo.com. Good quality, easy to use, and the customer service is top-notch. (Clicking on that link gets you a 10% discount off your first order!)
The best part? The cards print double-sided. One side for information, one side for images! It's like carrying a pocket portfolio. Since I can pick as multiple photos, people can choose their favorites - I've got everything from Batman to bubbles!
Really, I love these

Moo.com - 10% off your first order!
Vistaprints - I haven't used them, but Vistaprint has some free offers if you want to test-drive handing out cards! They do print a small ad on the card, though.
